MACDOWELL MUSIC CLUB APPLE AWARD GOES TO KARLA VRIEZEN
Our parent organization, the Wisconsin Federation of Music Clubs, (WFMC), presents ten Apple for the Teacher Awards each year to music teachers throughout the state nominated by their local music clubs. We are pleased to announce that our nominee for this year, Karla Vriezen, has been awarded $300 to be used to enhance her music program for her students. Karla teaches general music classes at Adams Elementary School in the morning and Roosevelt Elementary School in the afternoon. Mrs. Vriezen puts on a musical with every grade level she teaches each year. She also arranges special enrichment clubs after school for areas such as keyboards, recorders, and an art club where sets and costumes are designed and prepared for the annual winter sing. In addition, she teaches private lessons. Karla has decided to use her award to purchase five “Kid
Drums” for a D.R.U.M. ensemble which stands for Discipline, Respect and Unity through Music. Congratulations to Karla and all the children who will benefit from this award in the Janesville School System. We are proud to support our local music teachers in the classroom.
